Lauren and David’s wedding
There is something really exciting about creating a wedding cake for friends and family. This year I had the opportunity to embark on a baking extravaganza for my brother in law, David and his fiancée Lauren. From the outset it was really important to Lauren that their cake featured both the lace detail from her beautiful dress and the soft pink roses that made up her bouquet. Using royal icing brush embroidery I was able to recreate the lace trim from the bodice on her stunning Sassi Holford gown. Sugar roses and cascading petals were then added to the top and third tiers. The result was a romantic four tier design that tied in personal details while complimenting the grandeur and sumptuous decor of their venue, Rosewood London.
For the evening, I designed a dessert buffet that offered a huge variety of flavours and styles of cake for their guests. I created several layer cakes covered in buttercream; summer berry, sicilian lemon, white chocolate with passionfruit jam, coconut sponge with lime curd and Belgian chocolate sponge covered in ganache and honeycomb.
In addition to the feature cakes were mini chocolate brownies, flavoured meringue kisses, fondant fancies and handmade chocolates. Alongside pretty jars filled with an assortment of sweets, the table provided a feast for both the eyes and the palettes of guests.
At the beginning of the planning process, David and Lauren approached me with the idea of wedding styled biscuits for their table favours. Once the colour scheme was set (and I knew that the groom had chosen a grey suit), I was able to adapt the biscuit design accordingly. These favours really added the wow factor to their beautiful table place settings.
